In the chemical industry, MEK (methyl ethyl ketone) and MEKO (methyl ethyl ketone oxime) sound alike. However, they have clear differences in their molecular structure and uses.

1. Physical properties:

Butanone, chemical formula C4H8O, is a colorless and transparent organic solvent. Its good solubility and moderate volatility are widely used in coatings, glues, printing inks, etc.

MEKO (chemical formula C4H9NO) is a white crystalline solid and a derivative of MEK. Due to its unique oxime structure, it has reducing and coordination capabilities and is mainly used as an intermediate raw material.

2. Applications

Application of MEK:

Solvent field: adjust the viscosity of the coating, enhance the adhesion of the adhesive, and increase the drying speed of the ink.
Chemical intermediates: used in the production of fine chemical raw materials such as methyl methacrylate (MMA) and pyrrolidone.

Application of MEKO
Preservative: used in metalworking fluids and water-based coatings to prevent corrosion.
Inhibitor: It can inhibit the free radical polymerization reaction of monomers such as acrylates and styrene.
